- ➤ A Burlington-based BETA Technologies plane became the first all-electric aircraft to carry passengers to a commercial airport last Wednesday. The 45-minute flight—piloted by founder Kyle Clark—carried four passengers and cost $8 worth of electricity. NBC5
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Aaron Montgomery—who allegedly attacked a Burlington police officer with a needle on Dec. 30 near North Union Street—pleaded guilty on Monday to assault on a protected professional and received probation. NBC5
- ➤ Samuel Blatt, a Colchester resident, robbed banks in Essex, Johnson, Winooski and Alburgh and attempted a robbery in Burlington in March 2024, stealing $14,100 before he was sentenced to 49 months in federal prison—followed by three years of supervised release. Burlington Free Press

- ➤ The Vermont DMV warned Burlington residents that scam texts falsely claim unpaid traffic tickets might lead to driver’s license suspension—official communications are sent by mail and include personal details. - ➤ VT’s Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets is hosting a free three-part webinar series for independent and co-op food stores starting June 12, with sessions on growing sales, managing margins, and category management from 3:00 — 4:00 p.m. EST, while a free on-farm soil health field day in Brattleboro is set for July 10 and USDA grant applications for local food systems are due by June 27. - ➤ Gov. Phil Scott signed a new law on May 22 that expands unpaid leave for Vermont workers by allowing up to 12 weeks off for new child care needs, safe leave for domestic or sexual violence survivors, and bereavement leave of up to two weeks—though bereavement leave is capped at five consecutive days.
