- ➤ On Friday, June 20th, the Feed-A-Family Food Drive will be held at the south end City Market — 207 Flynn Avenue, where Vermont Federal Credit Union and local organizers will collect food, cash, and essentials to help families facing hunger. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new independent movie theater will open this fall in downtown Burlington at 230 College Street with two screens seating 31 and 19, and will operate as a cooperatively-governed nonprofit showing independent and foreign films several days a week. Local founders including a teacher, lecturer and physical therapist have joined to create a cozy venue that also offers a small bookstore and cafe—bringing a fresh cultural spot to our community. - ➤ Grace Potter will bring the Grand Point North festival back to Waterfront Park from Sept. 12 to 14, where she will perform with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and bands including Burly Girlies, The Wet Ones! Grace Palmer, Heady Betty, Dutch Experts and Goose. Tickets go on sale June 20. NBC5

- ➤ Lawmakers passed H.454, a major education transformation bill that will change our education system and offer long-term property tax relief while setting new school district boundaries by July 1 — a year earlier than planned. VermontBiz

- ➤ Burlington Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak and city council officials met yesterday to address a discovered $1.8 million gap in the budget proposal—suggesting pay cuts to city leaders as one possible fix—and will decide on a remedy before the fiscal year 2026 budget vote in two weeks. - ➤ Advocates for unhoused Vermonters urged Gov. Phil Scott on Tuesday to extend a motel voucher program for over 300 vulnerable households as the current protections for families and medically needy expire on June 30. - ➤ UVM Children's Hospital was named No. 16 among the top pediatric hospitals in the United States by Money magazine. The hospital earned A grades for overall care and price transparency and treats over 25,000 patients each year — a mark of its expert staff and high quality care — according to its chief of pediatrics. - ➤ United Way of Northwest Vermont announced $647,000 in subgrants to 17 local organizations in Burlington, St. Albans, and Barre Health Districts for substance misuse prevention efforts—supported by the State Department of Health Division of Substance Use Programs.
