BUSINESS NEWS

  • In Burlington, City Market’s South End co-op has not become profitable eight years after a $20 million expansion and reported a nearly $470,000 loss last fiscal year due to stagnant sales and pandemic challenges—managers hope to stabilize operations by 2028 amid ongoing construction and safety concerns.  Seven Days

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Vermont Construction Academy launched a five‐week trade boot camp in Winooski on Wednesday to give students hands‐on experience in construction, engineering, and other high‐demand fields. • Pandemic-era changes to the federal summer meal program have been made permanent so local schools and nonprofits now offer more free breakfasts and lunches to children under 18. The programs deliver over 1 million meals each summer and include take-home kits and community delivery to help families during school break — Vermont led national participation in 2023.  Seven Days

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Burlington city leaders passed a resolution that temporarily renames Church Street to Rue Canada Street to welcome Canadian visitors amid rising U.S.-Canada tensions; the move sets aside $3,000 for updated signage and additional Canadian flags.
