COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ABC22/FOX44 hosts Feed a Family at City Market at 207 Flynn Ave in Burlington today from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.—local residents can donate nonperishable foods, soap, paper towels, and cash for local food banks, with Vermont Federal Credit Union sponsoring the event.  MyChamplainValley.com
  • Communities across Vermont and New York will hold Independence Day events with fireworks, parades, and live music in early July—Burlington will feature its largest fireworks show at Waterfront Park on July 3 with food vendors and family activities. The celebrations offer several options for residents looking to enjoy a festive, local holiday.  NBC5
  • Patricia Ann Reilly Farnham, a Burlington resident known for her humor and generosity, died peacefully June 11 surrounded by loved ones. Her Mass of Christian burial will be held on July 3 at 1 p.m. at Christ the King Church (136 Locust Street) with interment later at Resurrection Park in South Burlington, and per her request there will be no calling hours.  VTDigger

  • Dinse, one of Vermont’s largest law firms, was honored in Chambers USA 2025 for its eight recognized attorneys and top ratings in practice areas — Labor and Employment, Litigation, Real Estate, Intellectual Property and Corporate/Commercial. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Burlington Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak announced on June 17 that property taxes for a $500,000 home will rise about $100 after a $1.8M budget error was discovered—most property owners will see lower overall taxes because education taxes are expected to drop. The revised budget also delays new hires and cuts the upcoming police academy class.  VTDigger
  • Wuendy Bernardo, a migrant farm worker and mother of five and guardian to two, attended an ICE appointment in St. Albans on June 20 with her lawyer and children. Hundreds gathered to support her as she left and was told to report back on July 21—she continues to face deportation proceedings following her 2019 detention.  VTDigger
  • The Town of Middlebury will open its recreation building on Creek Road from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on June 23 and 24 and its pool on June 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on June 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a suggested $1 donation. Burlington’s Mayor’s Office listed cooling centers — Fletcher Free Library, ONE Community Center, Sharon Bushor Conference Room, COTS Daystation, Vermonters for Criminal Justice Reform and CVOEO Community Resource Center — with free water at City Hall Park.  MyChamplainValley.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Vermont Department of Health warns that temperatures will reach the upper 80s to mid 90s next week and may cause dehydration, cramps, or heat stroke in vulnerable groups, such as older adults and those without air conditioning. The department urges Vermonters to drink plenty of water, seek cool spaces, and check on neighbors (especially those living alone) to stay safe in the heat.  VermontBiz
