- ➤ Vintage Inspired Marketplace opened a new store at 10 Dorset Street where over 50 vendors sell vintage items like clothes and knick-knacks. - ➤ CCTV Center for Media & Democracy will host a 24-hour telethon from July 25 at 6 p.m. to July 26 at 6 p.m.—the fundraiser will help save the CCTV Archives of more than 40,000 local programs with live auctions, music performances and community talk shows. - ➤ Vermont farmers reported that crop insurance falls short as about 70% of farms remain uninsured because of high premiums and burdensome paperwork. - ➤ An eight-mile upgrade connecting Burlington's Union Station to Essex Junction will let freight trains run faster and carry heavier loads at 286,000 pounds—this federally funded project is set to improve the rail line for both freight and eventual passenger services such as a quicker Ethan Allen Express. A study is also examining whether extending the Valley Flyer to Brattleboro is feasible as part of broader plans to enhance Vermont’s rail network. VermontBiz
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Howard Center will cut programs and staff to meet budget deficits from rising healthcare costs—these changes include reducing 13 supportive housing beds, closing Westview House day programming, consolidating substance use disorder services to one county, and eliminating 57 positions while offering reassignments.
