- ➤ The renovated Joyce McEntee pool at the Boys and Girls Club on Oak Street reopened after four years and $600K in renovations and is expected to last for 30 years. Nearly 100 summer campers will get daily swim lessons this season + the pool remains open only to club members with spots already filled until its August closure. Burlington Free Press

- ➤ On Tuesday, July 29, most Burlington beaches closed because cyanobacteria made the water unsafe for swimming and could cause skin and stomach issues. Officials said hot, dry weather may worsen the blooms—only North Shore Natural Area and Red Rocks Park remain open. VTDigger

- ➤ Burlington officials plan to replace the removed Chief Greylock monument with a new wooden sculpture commissioned by the Abenaki Nation at Missisquoi (state Rep. Troy Headrick argued that groups in Quebec should have been consulted). The city paused formal council approval to allow further structural analysis of the old statue base while affirming its agreement with the Missisquoi group. VTDigger
- ➤ South Burlington officials named William Breault as the new police chief — he was chosen from 14 applicants for his 26 years of service with Dover Police in New Hampshire. His first day will be Oct. 6 and the department will hold a media briefing this Friday. NBC5
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UVM Health Network and Vermont State University extended their cost-sharing plan for Vermont’s only respiratory therapy program until June 30—allowing up to 25 students to join in fall and spring while backing tuition and study support for health workers. This agreement aims to ensure local hospitals have enough skilled respiratory therapists. VermontBiz
- ➤ UVM Health Network cut 77 jobs and eliminated 69 vacant positions Tuesday to save $5 million as part of its plan to reduce spending by $185 million amid rising health care costs.
