- ➤ On July 29th, Putney Mountain Winery became employee owned when workers formed the Fermented Five cooperative and bought the business with help from VEOC and local agencies — the change follows a planning process that began in 2024. - ➤ The Justice Department said Thursday it will seek the death penalty for Teresa Youngblut— a 21-year-old member of the Zizians group accused of fatally shooting border agent David Maland in Vermont on Jan. 20— as she now faces murder and assault charges. Vermont Public

- ➤ Gasoline prices in Vermont average $3.09 per gallon, which is slightly lower than last week and 31 cents less than a year ago according to AAA data. In Burlington, rates average $3.13 per gallon today and vary by station, while the national average remains at $3.16 as oil prices fell below $64 per barrel. VermontBiz

- ➤ The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department will host its annual Learn to Hunt series with free workshops beginning August 16 for new adult hunters and families to learn deer and waterfowl hunting skills. The waterfowl workshop will be held at North Country Sportsman's Club in Williston from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—volunteer instructors will guide participants through harvesting, processing, and cooking game. - ➤ A drop in Lake Champlain's water level has led to more boating crashes and extra tow calls from areas between Mallets Bay and Burlington—boat operators now face hazards near Hogback Reef and Colchester Shoal.
