- ➤ A memorial arch is taking shape in Kieslich Park on North Avenue as a tribute to survivors who endured abuse at a long-closed Catholic orphanage. Artist Clay Mohrman said the arch—made from black locust trees and a metal frame—is meant to serve as a healing portal and will have its dedication in early September. NBC5
- ➤ The Champlain Valley Fair runs from Aug 22 to Aug 31 and will have clear, warm weather Friday while Saturday will be the hottest with rain chances appearing in the evening—Sunday is expected to be cloudier and windier with more rain in the afternoon. - ➤ A man was fatally assaulted by a group of Burlington teens near City Hall Park on Aug. 11 at about 1:30 p.m., and police arrested three juveniles—one carrying a firearm—in connection with the case. NBC5

- ➤ Today, as Chittenden County students return to school, police will enforce speed limits from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on school days, and fines are doubled to protect children—drivers must slow down. Burlington Free Press
- ➤ Winooski Mayor Kristine Lott announced her resignation effective Sept. 15 as she prepares for motherhood and a career change—Deputy Mayor Thomas Renner will serve as interim mayor until a new leader is elected on Town Meeting Day in March 2026. NBC5

- ➤ Green Mountain Transit is adjusting its bus routes to cut costs and boost ridership amid a nearly $3 million gap—starting next Monday the Williston Road and airport shuttles will run every 15 minutes between downtown Burlington and South Burlington's new City Center. The changes end the fare-free policy on the number 11 bus, which will no longer stop at the UVM Medical Center while number 2 continues to serve that stop. NBC5

- ➤ Vermont hospitals submitted proposals for their 2026 budgets, beginning in October, to the Green Mountain Care Board and plan less than a 3% price increase for commercial insurers—most hospitals expect to break even or lose money while UVM Medical Center projects a profit.
