- ➤ Justin Trombly became the editor of the Burlington Free Press at the end of August and now invites Burlington and Chittenden County residents to share their views via a reader survey. - ➤ Cathedral Square accepted a $25,000 gift from Charlotte Congregational Church on 9.16 to help fund its Housing Incentive Program (HIP) that supports residents moving from homelessness to stable, affordable housing. - ➤ Winooski Mayor Kristine Lott stepped down at a city council meeting Monday evening to focus on her family and Deputy Mayor Thomas Renner became interim mayor until a new leader is elected on Town Meeting Day in March — the council also lowered parking fines from $30 to $25 for most violations. - ➤ Regulators approved the 2026 budgets for Vermont’s 14 hospitals last week to control healthcare costs and limit insurance premium hikes—reducing overall spending by $94.5 million with deep cuts to UVM Medical Center and requiring hospitals with financial issues to resubmit proposals.
