- ➤ AGC/VT won the Howard Mock Award for the second time in three years—its tenth national or international honor in five years that recognizes its growth, innovation and member engagement in Vermont’s construction industry. - ➤ Since 1955, the UVM Lane Series has brought music from around the world to Burlington—its 70th season debuts tonight at the UVM Recital Hall following a gift from Nellie Lane in 1954. Vermont Public
- ➤ Fletcher Free Library in Burlington received a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile—part of its Hometown Grants program—to preserve its historic 1904 Carnegie building, and a check presentation will take place at 12:15 p.m. on Oct. 4 with Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanek and library officials present. - ➤ Wetland professionals met at a VAWS workshop to discuss how the drought is shrinking the edges of wetlands and changing soil conditions—DEC urged farmers, landowners and others to carefully identify these areas to protect water quality, wildlife and flood buffers. The state’s guidelines cover over 300,000 acres, stressing that correct mapping is vital for long-term resilience. VermontBiz
- ➤ The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report showed that extreme drought spread into Vermont’s Upper Valley, affecting towns such as Hartford, White River Junction and Norwich. Severe drought also covered 78% of the state—up from 60% last week—and raised concerns of crop losses, water shortages and wildfire risks. NBC5
- ➤ The Resilience Implementation Strategy outlines over 100 state actions to protect communities from flooding, drought, heat waves and wildfire smoke. Gov. - ➤ Between 2020 and 2024, Vermont spent over $789 million of public funds on affordable housing—creating 2,249 new homes, fixing 1,156 units and supporting 1,015 projects. State officials say that while this funding helped ease the housing shortage after the pandemic, more work is needed to fully meet demand. VTDigger
- ➤ Public health analysts have shown that Vermont has about 330 cows per 1,000 people on average, but Addison and Orleans counties report much higher ratios (1,672 and 1,057 cows per 1,000 people, respectively). NBC5
