Rising costs and reduced incomes are forcing Vermonters to give up pets as local shelters struggle to find space; one owner in Bennington County contacted over 30 agencies to rehome her dogs (a Great Dane and a mix) but was turned away repeatedly.

Vermont Council on World Affairs will host its 2026 State of the World Summit on Wednesday, Sept.

23 at Hula Lakeside in Burlington from 8:15 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. The event will include panel discussions on how global issues affect local agriculture, trade, and security (registration closes Sept. 15).
