ECONOMY NEWS

  • Vermont’s construction industry grew this year with major projects like Cambrian Rise in Burlington—set to finish this fall—and Finney Crossing in Williston boosting local progress while labor shortages and high housing prices slow work. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighters worked on Brownell Mountain starting Saturday and used water from a nearby creek and a helicopter from Lebanon—tools that helped hold the fire’s spread—while 35 crew members cleared hot spots. An investigation found the blaze to be human-caused and officials will keep watch this week, asking anyone who sees suspicious smoke to call 911.  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jason Struthers faces trouble after Essex Junction ruled his licensed outdoor cannabis growing violates residential zoning laws by placing some plants too close to the required setback. • Governor Scott signed an executive order on September 17 that relaxes energy and wetlands regulations—this move speeds up permitting, reduces fees, and increases access to public lands for affordable housing.
