GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, Oct. 13, Vermont will observe Indigenous Peoples’ Day with federal offices, state offices (including courts), and most public libraries closed while post offices will not deliver regular mail. Retail stores remain open and FedEx, UPS, Chase Bank, and TD Bank will operate although some banks and UPS Ground Saver deliveries may be delayed so residents should check local trash pickup schedules.  Burlington Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • UVM Cancer Center is taking part in the nationwide OFSET trial—researching if chemo and radiation offer real benefits for early-stage breast cancer in premenopausal patients. Eligible women are randomly assigned to receive these treatments or not, and doctors expect to need years to know the results.  NBC5
  • The Vermont Department of Health said school vaccination rates have stayed steady since 2017—while national exemption rates rose nearly 1.5%, families must still submit forms for exemptions and schools post their immunization data.
