BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yesterday, Bank of Burlington rebranded as The Business Bank to serve local business customers and start expanding into New Hampshire and Massachusetts—marking its three years of service. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mike Kenny, a Burlington resident and former elementary teacher, turned a class project into MathFactLab to help students learn math using visual flashcards. The digital app, launched in 2022 and now used by over one million students worldwide, is set to add a new module for middle schoolers — expanding its proven approach in classrooms.  Seven Days
  • Burlington School District announced it eliminated racial disparities in suspensions in the 2024 to 2025 school year and lowered total suspensions from 248 to 207.   • Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor spoke at UVM on October 20 to around 700 students at Ira Allen Chapel and urged them to keep fighting for their beliefs in a legal system that is not black and white—she warned that walking away would mean losing the war for justice.   • The Vermont Department of Health reported that COVID-19 hospitalizations declined slightly from October 7 to October 13 after a summer rise (5 outbreaks in long-term care facilities remained unchanged) while wastewater tests showed varied virus levels across local sites.  VermontBiz
  • Dr. Shruti Khurana leads an IBD Clinic at UVM Medical Center that offers advanced treatment and care for patients with conditions like Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis—using telehealth and a team that includes surgeons, pharmacists, and psychologists to keep specialty services close to home.   • VTSU is celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month by recognizing its accredited dental hygiene program that has graduated 324 students and achieved a 100% job placement rate.   • More than 200 people gathered in Burlington on October 11 at the Burlington Surf Club for the 2nd Annual Vermont PANS/PANDAS 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness for autoimmune brain disorders that cause children to experience sudden changes in behavior.
