COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, Burlington held the annual Halloween Roll & Stroll, a three-mile ride where riders of all ages dressed in costumes and rode along St. Paul Street, South Union, and ended at Roosevelt Park—families and first-time riders celebrated a creative way to mark Halloween.  NBC5
  • Hinesburg officials have made progress on affordable housing by completing 24 senior homes at Kelley’s Field and now working on Windy Ridge’s 90-unit project with 60 affordable units in partnership with Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity—officials plan to secure permits for Riggs Meadow and add accessory homes to reduce long commutes.  VermontBiz
  • NBC5’s Andrew Grautski presented several community events on Sunday, October 26 — Montpelier hosted the Autumn Onion Costume 5K starting at 9 a.m. with prizes for standout costumes, Burlington held its 16th Annual Halloween Roll and Stroll beginning at 1:30 p.m. with a parade ending at Roosevelt Park, and Wilmington hosted the 8th Annual Trunk-or-Treat from 4 to 6 p.m.  NBC5
  • Staff and volunteers moved boxes and furniture from the Pride Center of Vermont’s longtime Burlington space yesterday as the center began its planned move-out this weekend due to a funding shortfall.   • This week’s Young Writers Project entry 'Sukkot' is by 12-year-old Sela Morgenstein Fuerst of South Burlington — it features artwork 'Fruit' by 14-year-old Oliver Ellis of Belmont. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gertrude Chamberlin School in South Burlington has been recognized as a gold level asthma friendly school for the 2024-2025 school year — health officials said covered dumpsters, indoor mats and unscented baby wipes help reduce asthma triggers. The school implemented 23 best practices during a recent tour led by nurse Kerry Farrell and health experts.  Vermont Public

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews across Vermont are repairing roads and bridges on interstates and highways starting today, with work to install drainage, pavement, and markings in areas including Colchester, Fairlee, and Brattleboro. Motorists should expect lane closures and delays as flaggers manage alternating traffic—extra time or alternate routes are recommended.  VermontBiz

  • Vermont high school football playoffs have announced quarterfinal matchups for Division I, Division II, and Division III after the regular season ended—with games starting on October 30, semifinals on November 7 or 8, and a championship tripleheader scheduled for November 15 at South Burlington High School.  Burlington Free Press
