COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army kicked off the 2025 Red Kettle Campaign Friday in Burlington—seeking more volunteers to help reach a goal of $85,000 for food support amid rising costs. The campaign will run until Dec. 24 and has already delivered 450 Thanksgiving baskets compared to 225 last year.  NBC5

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Concept2, based in Morrisville, Vermont, earned national recognition when its SkiErg exercise machine was listed on Oprah's Favorite Things for 2025—offering a full-body workout that mimics cross-country skiing. Founded in 1976 by the Dreissigacker brothers, the company expects the boost to expand its appeal beyond elite sports markets.  NBC5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country star Jordan Davis will perform on Saturday, Aug. 29 at the 2026 Champlain Valley Fair & tickets will go on sale to the public on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. on the fair website.  NBC5
  • Shelburne Museum’s Winter Lights will open Friday, Nov. 21 and run through Jan. 4, lighting up landmark exhibits like the 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga with festive colors. In its fifth season, the event will feature a new interactive Illumination Station for kids and live local performances on Saturday evenings and Dec. 26.  NBC5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Burlington students walked through the North End on Friday for National Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day—honoring the 65th anniversary of Ruby Bridges’ historic integration of schools. The walk began at Hunt Middle School, lasted about 45 minutes, and ended with an assembly where organizers expressed hopes for an annual tradition.  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Phil Scott criticized a school redistricting task force on Thursday for failing to provide three maps as required under Act 73+ he said this failure casts doubt on education reform and could keep costs and taxes high. The task force will meet on Nov. 20 to finalize its report for the Legislature.  VTDigger
  • Road crews in Shelburne and across Vermont treated roads on Friday and loaded trucks in preparation for wintry mix today; they have ample salt supplies to last through the season. Officials urge drivers to maintain four to five car lengths behind plows — if you cannot see the plow drivers' mirrors, they cannot see you.  NBC5

HEALTH NEWS

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield postponed a planned billing change that would cut reimbursement for unlicensed mental health providers by 24% starting in January 2026 — local clinicians said the change would hurt patient care and the financial stability of clinics. The insurer will gather more feedback from providers and community leaders to reevaluate the proposal.  VTDigger
  • Porter Medical Center of University of Vermont Health will hold a practice school bus crash drill on Vermont 116 near Bristol on Nov. 17 from 5 to 8 p.m.(20 actors will pose as injured patients) while local fire, EMS and law enforcement teams test their emergency plans.  Burlington Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • UVM hosted its first Rail Jam event Friday night on Trinity Campus—hundreds of students and local community members joined a friendly ski and snowboard competition for prizes. Leftover snow from earlier this week helped set the stage for this popular winter sports event.  NBC5
  • The University of Vermont men's soccer team will host the Bryant Bulldogs for the America East championship game tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Virtue Field. Both teams are top seeds (UVM is ranked No. 2 and Bryant No. 5 in the national poll) and are set to compete for conference glory.  NBC5
