- ➤ MVP Health Care and Independent Health announced an affiliation agreement yesterday to serve nearly one million members in New York and Vermont—both nonprofits employ 3,000 people and earn a combined annual revenue of about $7 billion. - ➤ Education reporter Corey McDonald explains that Vermont's public schools are in flux—Act 73 signed in July is setting up debates among lawmakers over changes that may affect students, teachers, and school districts. VTDigger
- ➤ Following Monday's city council meeting, several UVM students from Coolidge and Converse halls reported mold from leaks and broken bathrooms that have affected their sleep and exam performance—one junior said repeated dorm leaks left her overwhelmed during exams. - ➤ Vermont Fish and Wildlife is asking hunters during rifle season—Nov. 15 to 30—to submit deer incisor teeth so biologists can measure age and health for better deer management. - ➤ Burlington City Council passed a resolution Monday to require UVM and Champlain College to provide records of dorm inspections and housing code complaints after students reported mold, leaks and pest issues in dorms. - ➤ Burlington City Council delayed voting on a plan to shift the city-run mental health response team to the Howard Center—officials want more time to ensure the nonprofit can manage the added work before reconsidering the proposal on Dec. 1, while the mayor said the city will close the program next month with staff cuts. - ➤ The Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery and Prov launched 802Spirits Connect, an online ordering system for on-premises licensees. - ➤ Saturday is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host a fundraiser at the Edge in South Burlington that includes pickleball clinics, open play, and a showcase; the event starts at 9:30 a.m.—Board member Kathleen Weinheimer, who lost her husband to suicide, said it will support local programs, education, and survivor resources.
