  • Stowe Mountain Rescue said on Dec. 1 that a TikTok challenge led to an unprecedented number of backcountry rescues, including two 19-year-olds who got lost, and officials urge skiers to stay in bounds + plan safely for the season.  Vermont Public

  • Burlington has a new co-op micro cinema, PartizanFilm, located across from the Fletcher Free Library, which opens today with screenings of new releases and classics at 7:10 p.m. The venue invites locals to enjoy films and snacks in a welcoming community space (tickets are on sale now).  NBC5
  • Noah Kahan teased a new album on Tuesday when a mysterious pre-save link was posted on his website and he shared an unreleased song on TikTok, raising excitement among fans. The Vermont native said the album is finished though no release date was given.  Burlington Free Press

  • Seven Days publisher Paula Routly detailed her vision for sustaining local journalism during her June talk at Worthen Library in South Hero. She said unlimited resources would allow for improved staffing benefits, better training opportunities and support for reporters to live in the community—boosting local media resilience.  Seven Days

EDUCATION NEWS

  • House Speaker Jill Krowinski will push for a school redistricting plan in the upcoming session after the task force did not present new maps — Gov. Phil Scott said lawmakers might revise last session's maps and discuss funding reforms to manage education costs.  NBC5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • USDA threatened to withhold SNAP management funds from states that did not provide recipient data, but Vermont officials confirmed that the local program remains unaffected. Burlington residents will continue to receive prompt SNAP services as the state has complied.  NBC5
  • Gov. Phil Scott and Agriculture Secretary Anson Tebbetts visited Martin’s Tree Farm in East Corinth today at 4:50 a.m. to choose two Christmas trees for Montpelier’s Pavilion Building, as local growers report a healthy supply despite a wet spring and summer drought.  Burlington Free Press
